About Me

Karyn Chabot, D.Ay., LMT is the founder of Sacred Stone, a school for Ayurveda and continuing education in professional massage therapy, located in Rhode Island. To relieve her own pain, she laid upon the smooth, sun-baked stone cliffs in her backyard that were carved out perfectly to fit her body. In 1999, Karyn started heating velvety, textured sea stones from these cliffs and incorporating them into her oil massage practice to facilitate the healing process for her clients. The cliffs seemed to gently re-align her energy and subtly pull the pain out of her spine. The heated stones she applied to her clients with warm oil created the same effect.

In 1997, Karyn graduated and studied with the well-loved and renowned Dr. Vasant Lad, B.A.M.S at his prestigious school called The Ayurvedic Institute in New Mexico. She graduated from Goddard College with her bachelor’s degree in Alternative Health in 1995. Universal Massage Therapeutics of New Mexico graduated Karyn in 1997. During the past 23 years of working in the health industry and dancing professionally, she became a licensed and nationally certified Massage Therapist and continuing education provider for other massage therapists. In 1998 she became certified as a Ayur*Yoga Therapist by a well-respected national yoga presenter named Bethelya. Karyn studied extensively with Gandharva Sauls in The Ancient Ayurveda Theory and graduated the Ayurveda-Yoga Institute of NYC. After 1999, Karyn went on to become certified as a master crystologist with the Taomchi Association of America, a 2nd degree Reiki Practitioner, certified Quantum Touch therapist & certified Fitness Trainer and Nutritionist. Ion 2005, she studied module one & two of The Bodytalk System, The Yuen Method, and holds certification as a Pancha Karma Therapist and Medical Thai Therapist.

Over the last 10 years of using heated and chilled sea stones & crystals to heal her clients, she created a unique sequence and theory that integrates the beautiful science of Ayurveda and the art of heated stone massage (Shila Abyhanga) called Sacred Stone Therapy. She has presented this therapy on national TV, in many international and national spas and healing centers, and at the National Ayurvedic Medical Association annual conferences. She has written many published articles in national magazines. Karyn is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association, The National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and The National Ayurvedic Medical Association.

She has produced 5 comprehensive instructional DVDs on the art of stone healing and Ayurvedic spa therapies and has written 6 illustrated bodywork manuals and correspondence courses for massage therapists. In 2004, Karyn graduated and certified her first and only Sacred Stone Therapy instructor named Natali Joscelyn, also known as Shamana, who resides in Australia and has opened a sister Sacred Stone School. Karyn will be training and certifying more Sacred Stone Therapy Instructors in 2008. Sacred Stone Therapy made the cover of the American Massage Therapy Association’s Magazine in Oct 2003 and March 2005. At the moment, she is busy publishing her book on Sacred Stone Therapy and another book on Ayurveda (geared for massage therapists). Karyn believes true healers create the space for client’s to heal themselves. Her best healer is her 18-year-old daughter, the star shine of her life.
