Playing Card Divination (Cartomancy)

The original playing cards were actually once a stack of tiny, loose-leaf, unbound pages; perhaps papyrus, seaweed or banana leaves. The actual size of the “paper” was based on a precise, sacred geometrical size, later called a “deck” of cards. These cards are coded with archetypal shapes with hidden meanings that we now call suits. Each day of the year is assigned a specific natal and ruling card that gives rise to unique tendencies, patterns, and personalities. Based on one’s birthday (natal) card, we can depict its unique mathematical resonance, which can be used with cryptic formulas to calculate past, present, and future happenings in one’s life, as well as see the characteristics expressed in the layers of one’s personality.
The suits, numbers and royal cards are cosmic images and symbols designed to expand consciousness, as well align with the human experience on earth. Some consider it to be “The Book of Time”. Though this is a concise science, it is also a mystical art form that magnifies intuition and harmonizes the concept of free will and prayer. The deck of cards was actually an oracle and sacred mystical calendar cognized by an enlightened, highly evolved civilization. Later it was hidden in plain site for centuries because it was under persecution due to its accuracy and power, which posed a threat to egoist kings, churches and other governments. There is nothing evil, or “gypsy” about it unless the reader has evil intentions. I believe there are assigned angels of the light and gatekeepers of this sacred science who have protected it through the dark ages of persecution, awaiting the time when people would finally wake up to receive this oracle with the dignity and power it was designed to embody. Thankfully, the cards were kept alive under the guise of game playing like "go fish", bridge, poker, and so on. Cartomancy card meanings are clearly defined in many books, but there are still new meanings to be discovered and formulas to be created.

This tiny book has its own symbolic language outlining and defining each of our personal blueprints, genetic coding, gifts, challenges, future options and potential life experiences based on personal and global consciousness and the magic of the moment. Each card we play and how we play that card, create the fabric of our future. Once we fully understand this tiny book as it relates to ourselves, we can begin to understand that life is "play". The great mystics from India refer to this as the “Lila” of life, a Sanskrit term meaning the playful relationship between the absolute field of all possibilities and the relative world.

This concept gives rise to the two main card templates, which are time-space continuums and the foundation of this entire science: 1. Absolute Spirit Spread. 2. Relative Earth Spread. Both spreads contain all 52 cards in a specific order for a specific reason. Having awareness of these two templates, their order and how to interpret them, we can begin understand our relationships and ourselves, where we have been, our current situation and where we might be going. These spreads are simultaneously static and dynamic and express the genetic fabric of life as our soul’s blueprint. With this knowledge, one can transcend illusion and suffering, live in gratitude and play in the “Lila” of life with more bliss and peace of mind.
Consciousness in a Deck of Cards?
Is there an actual esoteric, mathematical science behind a common deck of playing cards? Believe it or not, the deck of common playing cards was one of the original calendar systems based on true solar time. More importantly, this calendar system served as a secret, mystical oracle. Intrigued, I started "playing" with this ancient oracle about 10 years ago with my friend. Nothing serious. I didn't give it much credibility at the time because I could not imagine a deck of cards having any real value as far as consciousness or divine truth. Even the loud, bold, tacky colors of the oracle's book cover turned me off, but something kept drawing me in.
This oracle is not founded on random card throwing or the Tarot. The Tarot is thought to have evolved from this oracle such that the symbol of the heart suit in the playing cards would be analogous to the cups in the Tarot deck. It is my hunch that since the heart suit is considered "first" in the suits, it would correspond to the elements of water and earth, also known as "kapha" in the ancient science of Ayurveda. It is universally accepted that the water element represents the emotions of the heart. Kapha is a Sanskrit word meaning "what sticks" and is most prevalent in our bodies and in the universe in the spring, which initiates the first signs of new life waking up from the winter slumber.
Based on the day of one's birth, the secret information revealed in this oracle is rooted in numerology, planetary archetypes, divine law and sacred geometrical symbols that represent the 5 great elements (ether, air, fire, water, earth). When the sacred geometrical symbols of the hearts, clubs, diamonds and spades are superimposed over each other in a specific design, it forms the shape of a human being centered on the matrix of the supersonic pole that passes upward through the adipati crown chakra and downward through the muladhara root chakra. I have found many other fascinating parallels with the science of Ayurveda, more specifically, a correlation that exists between the suits of the cards and the doshas. Dosha is a Sanskrit word meaning biological humor and usually indicates an imbalance of one of the five great elements within the body. It is thought to also contain many consistencies with the ancient Aztec calendar. I imagine this oracle was innovated around the same time the great Rishis cognized the beautiful science of Ayurveda in India. Perhaps the in the congruencies in these cognitions can be explained by the "Hundreth Monkey" effect? In any case, this oracle, along with the science of Ayurveda, has supported me in understanding my relationships, my purpose, my past and myself on a very deep level.
The magic of this oracle was intuited and interpreted by great mystics, astrologers and seers called The Order of the Magi (O.O.M.). They have also been referred to as The Three Wise Men who knew about the birth of Jesus simply by observing the Star of Bethlehem. They could calculate the longitude and latitude of his birth using this oracle. According to Onley H. Richmond, author of "The Mystic Test Book", published in 1894, the secrets of the math and sacred geometrical symbols of the playing cards are so powerful that the world was not ready to receive such knowledge until the turn of the 19th century. Even now, there are still many hidden mysteries and secrets in this oracle that remain to be unraveled and shone to the world.

The only 2 other books published on the science of the cards between 1894-1989, were "Sacred Symbols of the Ancients" by Florence Campbell and Edith Randall and "What's your card?" By Arne Lein. In 1998, Robert Lee Camp's books "The Love Cards" and "The Book of Destiny" caught my attention and have become my latest passion.
After charting and analyzing all the predictions and personality traits of my birth card and my planetary ruler card, I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is great truth, consciousness, and prophecy within these cards. The accuracy is higher than any Jyotish or Western astrological reading I have ever received. A few months ago, I began a professional career as a Destiny Counselor in Fairfield using this oracle. I have created the space for many clients to receive clarity, hope, vision into the Self and the their future. Often, a counseling session using this oracle can assist people in understanding their past and current relationships, future relationships, behavioral patterns, personality quirks, lessons and their personal dharma.
In Onley Richard's book, Mystic Test Book, he alludes to the notion that everything in our world has numbers that define its electromagnetic frequencies. In his words: "Everything that exists, large, or small, possesses a number that exactly gives a mathematical expression of the thing itself. If the constitution of the thing is complex, the number is complex. If it be simple in constitution, the astral number is simple."
I have found a beautiful, harmonious balance of linear and horizontal knowledge within this oracle. It perfectly integrates the logical, scientific, left brain of Shiva with the intuitive and abstract right brain of Shakti. The cosmic dance of Shiva and Shakti within this oracle can illuminate our purpose and assist us in transcending all illusion. By simply remembering and understanding why we have chosen our particular careers, families, friends, sorrows, joys, adversities and lovers, we can make more conscious choices, evolve toward greater love of the Self and see the Creator within every stone, flower and person.
The Order of the Magi represents itself by the Ace of Spades. The Ace of Spades on a very subtle layer means "secrets", "desires" and "passion". The appearance of an Ace of Spades in your reading could allude to a secret of some kind in your life. It is also the most powerful of the Aces. Aces symbolize beginnings, and as such, the Ace of Spades can mean a new beginning in our lives on a profound level. Every new beginning in life happens just after a death of some kind. Thus, the Ace of Spades is also associated with death.
Spiritually speaking, the Ace of Spades has a much more profound and valuable message for us. It is the one card in the deck that represents the hidden truth that lies behind the veil of illusion and the maya in this Kali Yuga (Age of darkness) and ignites the clarity that exists in the bliss of the Sat Yuga (Age of enlightenment).
The danger that lies beneath all oracles and astrological systems is the temptation of surrendering all your power to "the system" instead of seeking the answers within. One must stay fully aware and awake to that possibility. Another danger is forgetting the power of now and the gift of the present moment. When we know our future, it becomes challenging to live in the moment. It can create anxiety in some cases. If you want to remain truly conscious and present, yet dabble in the cards to peer into the future, one must practice returning to the moment and allowing time to unfold naturally in its perfect divine order and pace. This practice can become a sadhana (spiritual practice). By magnifying the duality that exists between the future and the now, we are presented with the choice to live for the future or live in the moment. It can serve as an opportunity to continually remind oneself that all we really have is the current moment, regardless of our destiny. Though there are some karmas we must live out, we can do so with ease if we experience life in the "Witness" state of being. One of my great teachers, Dr. Vasant Lad once said, "Watch the watcher", or in other words, witness the watcher (yourself) and observe the experience, separating your sacred self from the earthly experience.
The blueprint of your destiny does not take away free will. In fact, the knowledge in this oracle can help direct your attention to what you want to create in your life with the power of intention and prayer. We can sustain our intrinsic, unbounded, infinite nature once a true understanding is attained of how to read the specific energy, archetypes and influences that surround us. At the deepest level, this oracle will remind us that we were the ones that actually created our destinies and blueprints before we incarnated so that we could experience certain circumstances, patterns, emotions and specific people that could guide us to learn more about love and create more love in the world.
The card associated with your birthday is a symbol of a reservoir of karmic and personality attributes. Your card is not who you truly are. Instead, your card is a description of the traits you have chosen to embody in this lifetime that will help you reach self-actualization. It can give insights to events that repeat themselves over and over again in your life. With this knowledge, you can develop more understanding and compassion for the life you have chosen. You can transcend your card because you are much more than your card! Ultimately, we embody every card in the deck. Yet, we can't deny the unique traits and patterns symbolized by the cards that influence our daily lives. We can rise above our card's characteristics and patterns once we fully embrace dark and light aspects of your birth card. Those who think they can rise above the dramas of the card they chose without first embracing them are mistaken. The choice to be born on a certain day reveals exactly what we must learn to love. It is ourselves that we must love, with all the flaws and glories of the unique karmic characteristics and vibrations of the day we chose to enter this world.

Differences Between Tarot Verses Standard Playing Card Divination (Cartomancy)
Tarot is a form of divination that captures the consciousness of the moment. If we are aware and our minds are quiet, we can find the answers to all of life’s questions in nature, omens and by asking our bodies how we feel at any given moment. In Vedic astrology, there is a limb of divination called Prashna, which is when the astrologer will ask the heavens for an answer to a pressing question. Where the planets are at any given time is highly significant and interwoven into the consciousness, story and truth of the moment, providing accurate answers to well trained astrologers. The same principle applies to reading tea leaves, tossing a coin, dowsing rods, applied kinesiology, pendulums and angel cards. The answers in these divination systems as described above are based on the reflection of consciousness from the person who is asking the question. In fact, that person knows the answer already, but may not be able to articulate it or clearly see it in the “pea soup” of the 3rd dimension and the darkness of the kali yuga (dark ages). This is an excellent form of card divination, but surely different than the way answers are derived in the standard deck of playing cards, which is also known as cartomancy, cardology or playing card divination.
Playing Card Divination isn’t based on the consciousness of the moment or any other sort of omen or interpretation of nature. Instead, it is based on science and math. Its roots are in astrology, numerology, sacred geometry and symbols. The cards appear in a structured order, aligned with the transits of the planets and can be seen as the book of time. It is a language that card readers need to learn and speak whereby they connect the dots such that a story begins to unfold. Answers are based on a mystical calendar of time, similar to a clock oracle.

The Full Moon on Aug 3th, 2020 occurs in sidereal Capricorn in the wise lunar star of Shravana symbolized by the ear. It may be a time where the world will “hear” some intense revelations. While full moons tend to bring things to fruition, this emotional full moon is sitting with police-like Saturn in Capricorn and sweet Venus is sharing the house of Gemini with the head of the proverbial serpent called Rahu at the exact degree. Rahu is the north node of the moon and tends to stir things up. Venus is the keeper of love and peace, but may not be able to do her job with Rahu directly on top of her during the month of August. This may ignite trouble with romance personally, while encouraging more rioting globally. The moon will have an affinity with Uranus during this time because they are nearly at the same degree. This alignment may bring many unexpected events ranging from earth changes, crazy weather, electrical/technology issues and more political upheavals. Don’t buy into the chaos. Focus only on those things you can change. Allow everyone their opinion. Retrograde Jupiter, the destroyer of darkness and chief financial officer of the cosmos, won’t be of much help during this time because Pluto is only a few degrees away in the same house dumping tar on his wings. The moon is asking her children (us) to stay in the eye of the storm with full awareness. To help reduce anxiety, use your “shravana” ears to listen to peaceful music, meditate, be in nature, frolic in the ocean, eat cooling foods, pray, be kind and trust your intuition first and foremost.
The New Moon on Aug 19, 2020 will occur in sidereal Leo within the royal lunar star of Magha, symbolized by the throne. This also happens to be the lunar star under which Trump’s was born. This may bring in a time where the world is focused on leaders, especially Trump. New moons are a lucky time to begin new things, find new jobs, reinvent one’s life, or adopt a new belief system that bring more joy. The full moon eclipse in sidereal Sagittarius may cause friction over dogmas, beliefs and religions. Jupiter governs justice and religion and owns the real estate of Sagittarius in the sky. With Mercury retrograde, gazing directly at Jupiter in July, heated arguments due to misunderstandings may unfold, especially when personal and global core beliefs and rigid religious structures become shaken. Eclipse on June 5th, 2020 occurs in sidereal Scorpio in the lunar star of Jyeshtha symbolized by a mystical pendant which provides protection from negativity and brings luck. Jyeshtha’s real estate in the stellar skies is one of the most powerful, yet most sensitive locations. It holds extreme potentials, such as magnificent victories or shocking catastrophes. How it unfolds depends on the influence of the other planets and stars, but especially Mercury in this case since it lords over Jyeshtha. Although Mercury sits in its own sign of sidereal Gemini comfortably at the time of the full moon, one of his cohorts, Rahu, is also visiting Gemini. In Vedic mythology, Rahu is the north node of the moon and the head/mouth of the proverbial serpent. Mercury’s nature is like that of a chameleon; he will act like whomever he is with. While Rahu will be busy eclipsing the moon on June 5th, the only way Jyeshtha can potentiate a magnificent victory is through a starburst of collective prayer, love and fearlessness from as many beings as possible.
